Welcome to our first product updates of 2025! Our team has been working on multiple updates throughout December and January to improve your experience with our software and we can’t wait to share them with you!
Key Highlights
- SkyCiv Section Builder: Introducing the Direct Strength Method (DSM) Calculator.
- SkyCiv Foundation Design: New options for reinforcement hooks.
- SkyCiv Member Design: Support of Torsion checks in steel member design as per Eurocode 3 (EN 1993-1-1:2005).
- SkyCiv Quick Design: Introducing the Spread Footing Calculator.
Introducing the DSM Calculator
In December our team released the DSM factor calculation tool, fully integrated with our Section Builder and Member Design products!
This module was developed in-house and uses the Finite Strip Method to calculate critical buckling stresses for a variety of cold-formed shapes. This allows for the design of standard and custom cold-formed steel shapes to AISI S100 or AS 4600 using the Direct Strength Method.

New Options for Reinforcement Hooks
Our latest update to the SkyCiv Foundation Design module lets you add reinforcement hooks at both ends of your footing reinforcements. Choose between 90° or 180° hooks for added anchorage of your reinforcements. Plus, column dowel (starter) bars can now be visualized in 3D!
Additional improvements include:
-
- Enhanced solver settings for greater flexibility in results.
- Detailed development length checks.
- Improved UI and calculation reports.

Improvements in the SkyCiv Member Design
The module now includes a Basic Stress Check at critical points of the cross-section. This combines the effects of axial and shear stresses, following the yield criterion for elastic verification outlined in Eurocode 3, Section 6.2.1(5).
Users have full control over this feature. You can toggle the check on or off for all members and set thresholds for the torsional moment, either globally or for individual members, to determine when the check is performed or skipped.
Currently, the feature supports only I-sections and Hollow Rectangular sections.
SkyCiv Quick Design – Spread Footing Calculator
Our SkyCiv Quick Design ACI 318-19 Spread Footing Calculator (Pad Footing) now includes advanced capabilities to handle biaxial loading, eccentric footing offsets, and both reinforced and mass concrete footings.
This upgrade complements the ACI 318-19 Strip Footing Design module, allowing you to quickly, easily, and accurately design both spread footings and strip footings in compliance with ACI 318-19 standards.
These tools have been fully verified through independent review by expert engineers, ensuring reliability and accuracy. Try them out today!
