The target of this project: to create a minimum-weight structure for single-axis sun tracking solar panels array, improvement for a roof-top home PV system. Wind force is the main challenge. The other involves the need for long stroke, compact but simple actuator that folds under the structure, and limited support points.
SkyCiv was a great help in calculating forces and identifying high-stress points - suggesting alternate structures. Compared with the initial, intuitive version, this is much lighter, stiffer and stronger, having lower maximum stress.
The project is not complete and not implemented yet, so we might need to wait to see the last version life.
