You would be forgiven to think that the SkyCiv platform, particularly Structural 3D, caters to the large structures or structures that allow for occupancy. However, we would argue otherwise as Structural 3D is useful for any structure regardless of the size. The project seen here is that of an Engine Crane. The crane carries a load of 0.1 kN applied at the top of the model. When checked for analysis, it can be observed that the stresses are minimal. In this case, the greatest stress occurs at the base of the crane with stresses approaching 1 MPa, which, relative to the yield stress, is very small. In this case, one may think of reducing the sections used in this structure to increase the utilization of the structure and to save material costs.
At the end of the day, using structural analysis software like Structural 3D on small projects can still save valuable time in the design process.
